From Rainer Hempel: “Dimmis Jones identity was discovered in several sources although the spelling of her name varies considerably (Dimas/Demis/Dinnis/Dimmis) ... John Jones and wife “Demis” made out an indenture to sons Aaron and Asa Jones on October 27, 1836, (WRO, Libro T-1, 109: registered September 10, 1841).”92
Hempel believed her to be the daughter of William Daniel, Sr. and his wife Martha in Hopewell, in whose will is mentioned a ‘Dennis’ although this does not seem to be firmly verified to be our Dimas. It would certainly be consistent with the fact that she named two of her children William and Martha.
I have chosen the spelling ‘Dimas’ since that seems to have been the most likely spelling for her grand-daughter who was named after her.
