Obituaries notes for Rufus Steeves
“Mr. Rufus Steeves
The death of Mr. Rufus Steeves, a well known resident of Berry's Mills and a familiar figure about town, occurred at his home, Berry's Mills, about 12 o'clock yesterday. Mr. Steeves had been ill about 6 or 7 weeks. A couple of years ago he suffered a paralytic stroke in Moncton and never fully recovered from its effects. The deceased was in the 81st year of his age and was born at Steeves Mountain where he spent nearly all his life, being a fairly well to do farmer. He was well known in Moncton and had a great many friends. He was a member of the Steeves Mountain Baptist church and passed away peacefully and happy. Deceased leaves a widow, five sons, Abel, Arain, King and William, Berry's Mills, and Reuben, the latter living in the west, and one daughter, Mrs. Harry Ayer, of California. The funeral takes place at 12 o'clock to-morrow, interment taking place at Boundary Creek.” [The Daily Times, Tuesday, 9 Jan 1900, p. 4]220
