According to Domenico Campo in Sicily, the cemetery record listed Paolo’s son Franceso Valente with an ‘e’. There are conflicting reports as to whether the records at the “anagrafe” (the government office) show an ‘i’ or an ‘e’, although the reprinted birth certificate from San Filippo shows an ‘i’.63
It’s not clear at this time how the ‘e’ came to be used while sons Antonino and Giuseppe clearly spelt Valenti with an ‘i’.
