Obituaries notes for Michael Carmen DiCarlo
Michael Carmen DiCarlo, 88, of Liverpool, passed away peacefully on Thursday at his home. He was born in Syracuse, the son of Phillip and Rose (Panebianco) DiCarlo and was a 1942 graduate of North High School. Michael served with the U.S. Army during WWII and was awarded the Purple Heart after being wounded shortly after D-Day. After his honorable discharge from the Army, Michael worked for Prosperity Company. There he met and fell in love at first sight with the love of his life, Vera Marie Esgro. They married and had two children. In 1965, Mike and his sister-in-law's husband, Rich Vaughn, found a small lake in Ontario and built cottages next to each other. The cottage became Mike's second passion, after his family. He was employed with the U.S. Postal Service, retiring in 1986 after over 30 years of service, then worked part-time as a driver for the Ramada Inn. Michael was a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Adoration Society. He was an avid fisherman and looked forward to spending summers at the cottage. He also enjoyed golf and loved gardening. Michael was known for his amazing tomatoes, his rose garden, his homemade sausage and award-winning meatballs. Michael also enjoyed putting together jigsaw puzzles.
He was predeceased by his wife, Vera (Esgro) DiCarlo, in 1991 and his siblings, Nicolina Drouhard, Francis DiCarlo, Joseph DiCarlo and Albert DiCarlo.
Michael is survived by his son, David (Deborah) DiCarlo of North Syracuse; his daughter, Rosemary (Alan) DiCarlo Rainbow of Liverpool; four grandchildren, Kelly and Michael DiCarlo, both of North Syracuse, Matthew Rainbow of Rochester and Nicolas Rainbow of Liverpool; three sisters-in-law, Jeanne DiCarlo of North Syracuse, Christina Vaughn of Syracuse and Linda Esgro of Solvay; along with several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. in the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME and 9:30 a.m. in Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Liverpool. Burial will follow in Assumption Cemetery.
Family and friends may call at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.), North Syracuse, NY, on Monday from 4 to 7 p.m.
